ADOPTION PROCESS:

Fill out an application: Apply to Adopt a Dog OR Apply to Adopt a Cat
We will review and reply to your application with questions or an approval within 72 hours. Please be patient. You may contact us via email after 72 hours if you haven't heard back by filling out the Contact Us form.
After approval, your contact information will be sent to the pet's foster OR to an adoption representative at the rescue if the animal is not in a foster home. They will contact you within 48 hours with more information and to arrange to meet the pet. If you're out of state, we can send videos or do a video call to meet the pet.
To finalize adoption after the above steps, go to the pet's profile on our site and click Pay Adoption Fee. If you don't live near us in Boerne, Texas, make sure you choose Transport from the dropdown at checkout. Complete the checkout process, and for non-local adoptions, we will be in touch within a week with your pet's transport details. (Please note: We transport dogs and cats to select states.) Once adoption is finalized by paying the adoption fee, the adopter has 7 days to change their mind (whether local or transporting) to receive a refund minus a $50 fee. After that time, the full adoption fee is considered a donation if the pet needs to be returned.

ADOPTION FEES:

All of our pets are spayed/neutered, up to date on all vaccines (including rabies), heart worm tested (at a year or older), and dogs are microchipped.

Dogs:

Puppies under 6 months old: $350

Adults over 6 months old: $300

Seniors 7+: $250

*Some purebred dogs have higher adoption fees, and some other dogs have lower adoption fees.

Cats:

Under 6 months: $125

6 months - 2 years: $100

2-6 years: $75

Senior 7+: $50

*Some cats have higher or lower adoption fees depending on breed or health.

If your pet is not already spayed/neutered at adoption, please follow our instructions to contact our Spay/Neuter Coordinator to get the procedure set up ASAP!

Please consider adoption very carefully with every person living in the home. Bringing an animal home is a 10+ year commitment. Every rescue animal takes time to adjust to a new environment, so please be patient and read our FAQ page for helpful tips and info.

Adoption Policies

All current pets in the home must be spayed/neutered.
All current pets in the home must be up-to-date on required vaccinations.
We do not adopt out to individuals under 22 years of age.
We will not adopt out large breed puppies to apartments or to families with young children. Too many get returned to us once they are a year old. We can make exceptions if you have breed experience and a training and exercise plan.
If you decide to return the pet, $50 is non-refundable. However, if it's within 7 days, you will get the remainder of your fee returned.

Adoption FAQ

How long does it take to hear back after I fill out an application?
- In most cases, we will get back to you with questions or information within 3 days. The process always goes faster if you make sure to fill your application out completely. Please be patient, but if you don't hear from us within a week, please contact us at charmingpetrescue@gmail.com.
Why is do you only adopt to people ages 22 and up?
- Unfortunately we have had too many situations where an animal was not approved by parents and roommates or by landlords and ultimately has to be returned. We have limited resources to dedicate to adoptions, so we're focused on the most successful situations.
Why didn't I get the pet I applied for?
- All pets on the website have not have their adoptions finalized, but we do often receive multiple applications for a pet and can be in the middle of the process with another adopter. We try to complete the process as quickly as possible and always look for the best situation for each animal to the best of our ability. Please check out one of the many other awesome animals we have available for adoption!
