About Transport

Steps to adopting via transport:

  1. Apply to adopt.

  2. Talk to the adoption coordinator and/or foster for the dog you're interested in.

  3. Pay adoption and transport fees (select transport as the delivery method at checkout).

  4. The transport coordinator will reach out about available transport dates and instructions.

So you decided to adopt from Charming Pet Rescue and are in another state? That's amazing and we THANK YOU! All of our dogs are located in Boerne, TX, but over the years we've transported hundreds of dogs all over the country: Pacific Northwest (OR and WA), Midwest (IA, IL, MN, MO, WI), and the East (CT, MD, NY, OH, PA, VT). The dog transport fee is $300 and is paid at checkout--choose Transport as the delivery method. We also transport cats to select states for a $200 fee paid with a separate product added to cart before checkout. We understand that transport is not an option for everyone, but we offer it as the cost we pay the transport company for those who choose to adopt from us.

If any any point during the process you feel it’s already a regret, please let us know and no hard feelings, $50 of the fees are not refundable, but we can refund the remainder of your fees if you change your mind within 7 days of paying. We want what’s best for our dogs. They’ve already been through so much and we want their next leap to be their final leap! Please see below about our refund policy.

How do I know if the dog is a good fit for me?

We do our best to give you all of the information you will need to make a formal and educated decision as if you have met the dog in person. We can send videos and pictures to your delight! We are 100% honest and upfront about all behaviors the dogs exhibit to make sure we find the perfect fit with no surprises.

 

How do I know the dog is healthy?

All dogs are fully vetted and travel with their paperwork showing they have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested and microchipped. They also receive a health certificate from a vet just before leaving. Withholding information would jeopardize our goal for our dogs so please be certain, honesty is our policy. We are committed to our dogs. 

 

Do I pay before meeting the dog?

We do not begin to schedule transport for your dog until the adoption is final, but once your application has been approved and the adoption fee, plus a separate transportation fee of $300 has been paid, we get the dog on the schedule right away! Please give us a few days after adoption and transport fees were paid to get the transport finalized. We will reach out to you once we have the date.

How do I know the dog will be well-cared for during transport?

We work with a reliable, reputable dog transport company that leaves throughout the month on different transport routes. Typically it will take 2-4 weeks to get your adopted dog scheduled to leave, but each transport is only a few days on the road.

Where/when do I pick up my dog?

Delivery location of your dog won’t be determined until a few days before they leave because of add on/drop off passengers. Drop off will be within a few hours of your address. Dogs are unable to be dropped off at personal addresses--no exceptions. You will receive an email at least 3 days before transport with exact locations and times for you to confirm the most convenient for you. Please have a backup plan in place in case you can't make the drop off time. We cannot make adjustments once the dogs have left on transport. The transport company is in charge after the dogs leave our care. [Adopters in MA, we transport to Brattleboro, CT and Hartford, CT, but do not actually enter MA, so be aware that your pickup may be 3 hours from you.]

What else do I need to know?

Most of the transports use large white vans, they stack kennels to the ceiling and the dogs are loaded onto the vans. There are 2 drivers that alternate driving and sleeping--they don’t stop for the night. They stop every 6 hours to clean the kennels and give each dog a potty break. You will need to bring a slip leash with you, so that their collar doesn’t pop off of their head in the parking lot. The dogs do get stressed out during the transition, but they are well taken care of. Thank you for adopting!!!

Refund Policy

Once you pay the adoption fee, that is considered the adoption date, and no matter what $50 is non-refundable. You have 7 days within that date to change your mind in order to get the remainder of your fees refunded. After that, if it's before transport, you can get the transport fee refunded, but the adoption fee is considered a donation at that point. If the pet has already been transported to you, no amount of the adoption or transport fee can be refunded. If you decide the dog isn't a good fit, you can find a new home for the dog near you either working on your own or with a local rescue. Unfortunately we cannot pay to transport the dog back to us as that would be cost prohibitive for our rescue.
