DOggy Day out:

Welcome to our Doggy Day Out program. We have so many dogs who would love a break from the rescue, and it will help us learn more about their personalities! Research shows going on a day out from the rescue helps a dog's mental health and helps them get adopted faster!

How does it work?

We will help match you to the right dog to "check out" for the day to take on adventures wherever you go. And you get to have fun with a dog for the day!

Step 1: Fill out the volunteer application:

Do not select any Qualifications unless you have already been trained at the rescue.

Step 2: Review the safety information:

  • Always wear secure, closed-toe shoes and clothes you don't mind getting dirty or torn.

  • Do not wear or bring any valuables--dogs especially may grab onto and take something that isn't theirs.

  • Pay attention to animal. body language and do not force interaction. Many dogs and cats DO NOT enjoy being hugged or kissed by a stranger.

  • The Fear Free Shelters program is a fantastic training for reading animal body language. It's free and you go through the modules at your own pace. Check it out: Fear Free Shelters

Step 3: Complete any training.

All new volunteers: In Bloomerang Volunteer, please sign up for a dog and/or cat Volunteer Orientation spot in the Orientation opportunity and be sure to watch the Dog Orientation training video below.

Step 4: Email our coordinator.

Sign up for a day to take a dog out of the rescue by emailing our Doggy Day Out (DDO) volunteer coordinator: doggydayout@charmingpetrescue.org
